Why need a pellet cooler?

After the pelletizing process, the temperature of the wood pellet is about 60-80 degree, and the moisture content of the wood pellet is about 15%. At this moment, packing these pellets right away is not recommendable due to some reasons. Firstly, the temperature is too high to be packed. The high temperature means we need high temperature insulation heat material to packing and which will increase the cost. In addition, the hot and moist pellets are easily broken into powder again without being cooled.Cooling process also helps us to prevent the pellets from condensation and mildew.

So we need use Cooler to reduce about 3-4% moisture. The pellet cooler is used to reduce the temperature of hot pellets from pellet making process to ambient temperature.Counter flow cooler is mostly adopted by people.

How does the counter flow cooler work?

The cooler works on the principal of blowing air through columns of hot moist pellets, in which the airflow is opposite to the direction of flow of pellets, which leads to evaporation of moisture from the pellets. For moisture evaporation, heat is removed from the pellets leading to cooling of pellets.

To achieve the required cooling effect, pressure and volumetric flow rate of air, length of column along with the residence time will play a crucial role. It includes intake air lock, cooling chamber, grid gate, blower, and pipeline and cyclone assembly.

Why counter flow cooler?

Counter flow cooler is not the only type of cooler that we can choose to cool the pellets made by wood pellets machinery. But why we choose counter flow cooler? There are some advantages of it.

Counter flow cooler is high efficiency. After cooling, the temperature of cooled pellets would be lower than the room temperature with 3 to 5 centigrade and the moisture will be removed by 3.5%.
Counter flow cooler discharge automatically. The unique sliding-valve discharging unit also ensures it running stably and discharge smooth.
◆The rotating material sprinkle device to insure material be cooled equably and drastically; the countercurrent cooling method avoids direct blowing of cool air on the hot pellets, which prevents surface cracking of the pellets, maintaining high pellet quality.
◆The series counter flow coolers can match with secondary volute separator for combination use. And can be used to cool down all kinds of pellets.
